Реферат: eng: Experiments on the carbon clusters formation in condensing vapor show that the coalescence of ring-shaped clusters leads to formation of polycyclic clusters, containing 2-4 large ring fragments and serving as the precursors of fullerenes. In order to explain this phenomenon we performed a theoretical study of reactions between carbon rings, using MINDO/3 method. We found that these reactions apparently lead to formation of polycyclic clusters which are relatively stable. The energies of rings binding and reactions barriers were estimated. If a linear cluster attaches to a ring fragment it will be quickly inserted into it.
